Opponents of Salem-Chennai green corridor to petition Collector en masse..!
Farmers opposed to the proposed Salem – Chennai Green Corridor project are planning to submit petitions en masse to the District Collector, in protest against the move to acquire additional farmland for the project.
They have also decided to observe a fast in their respective villages, condemning the official machinery for attempting to execute the project in violation of High Court directives.
The State government and the National Highways Authority of India had been planning to acquire more land for the execution of the project, and had recently made an announcement in this regard. This had sent shock waves through the villages that stand to be affected by the project.
The farmers of Nilavarapatti, Poolavari, Nazhikkalpatti and Erumapalayam held a meeting on Sunday to discuss the future course of action.
They accused the government of pushing ahead with the execution of the project, ignoring the interests of farmers and the directives of the court.
They have decided to meet and petition the Collector on December 14.
